Big Billy Little Billy

Big Billy Little Billy is a 2D-animated series pilot produced by the Brighton Zoo team (under Plug-in Media) in 2013 for Nick Jr. in the USA.

Two full 11-minute episodes were produced in partnership with A Productions in Bristol and co-written by Jasper Gibson and Dominic Minns.  Here Come the Billies and There’s a Panda in the Tree feature the adventures of two billy goats called Big Billy and Little Billy.

Here Come the Billies was our initial pilot and sees our two Billy Goats taking a visit to the world famous Silly Trees Play Park. When the pair finally arrive, they can’t believe how utterly decrepit it is - and they love it! While having fun on broken play equipment the Billies make so much noise they rouse the grumpy caretaker, Panda. In an attempt to get the pair to stay quiet, Panda assigns them to tidy up the park before his boss Raccoon arrives. Turning this errand into a silly game, the Billies transform the park and fill it with even more noisy children - much to Panda’s dismay!

The There’s a Panda in the Tree episode features a storyline in which our two intrepid billy goat heroes attempt to rescue a certain Scottish Panda, who is stuck up a tree after a disastrous attempt to demonstrate how a seesaw works.  The second episode was developed for a slightly younger audience of 3-5 year olds and designed to explore a simple early years curriculum of oppositional concepts.

The Plug-in Media team took on scripting, storyboarding, animatic, and the design packs in-house before shipping the project to A Productions in Bristol for animation and post production. Dom Minns directed the project across both studios and worked with his songwriting partners to write and perform the music for the show, which was voiced by SpongeBob’s Tom Kenny and Family Guy’s Audrey Wasilewski.

Both full length pilots are super funny and engaging, and demonstrate our creative development skills - particularly when it comes to action comedy for the preschool audience.
