Supertato

We’re completely and utterly potato-excited to announce the launch of Supertato on CBeebies.  A 2D animated comedy adventure series for 4-6 year olds, based on the best-selling books by Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet.  If you’ve been watching the Brighton Zoo socials you’ll know that this is the first show out the gate from the exciting brand new collaboration between Plug-in Media and Blue Zoo. 

Behind the closed doors of WIZE BUYS SUPERMARKET the Veggies are off their shelves and looking for fun! But one small, green, and very mean pea keeps sneaking out of the freezer to create chaos in the aisles. EVIL PEA is determined to rule the world – her world being the supermarket, where she longs to reign supreme. And she might just get away with it if it wasn’t for wholesome hero SUPERTATO! He’s always there to save the day and thwart Evil Pea’s mischievous schemes with courage, teamwork, and ingenious repurposing of everything the well-stocked supermarket shelves have to offer.

With laugh-out-loud comedy being the show’s primary modus operandi, there couldn’t be a more perfect project for our comedically focused Creative Director, Dom Minns, and from what we’ve heard, it’s certainly striking a chord with the audience, who have been giggling their socks off since the show first landed back in October. 

Aside from the massive undertaking that has been animating 52 x 7-minute episodes remotely and from our Brighton-base (along with help from Chinese studio, Feitong) we’ve also been producing Youtube content for the brand, using our short-form, in-house Animoco pipeline.  Creating the Supermarket Showdown game and a Supertato Story for the CBeebies Storytime app were also both  further opportunities to demonstrate that when it comes to creating multiplatform content, we know what we’re doing.
