With temperatures below zero and days not feeling longer yet, it’s easy to get bogged down by the blues this winter. Working in animation requires a lot of time sitting indoors and staring at screens, so here are some helpful tips for boosting your energy and mood during the colder months.
Eat nourishing foods
Looking to switch up your lunch options during the week? Pop into the studio on Thursday for our weekly studio lunches. We do Soup Thursday’s at this time of year, with different healthy flavours each week (sometimes they are homemade by the crew)
Watch your screen habits
We all know what it feels like to stare at a screen for too long, and it can be particularly challenging if you’re prone to headaches and migraines. Try taking a break from the screen where you can, practising methods such as the 20-20-20 rule or adjusting your screen brightness to sunrise and sunset mode.
Get enough daylight
If you’re spending most of your working day indoors, use your lunchtime break to take a walk outside. If you’re having trouble getting off to sleep at night, morning sunlight is said to improve your circadian rhythm, so step outside in the morning if you can.
Keep moving
It can be hard to factor in time for physical activity around work, but there are small things you can do to help at work, such as using a standing desk or taking the stairs instead of the lift (there are 5 flights of stairs to the Brighton studio if you’re up for the challenge!)
Create a clean & tidy working environment
With such busy schedules, it can be easy to let your desk become cluttered with things and forget clean surfaces. Keeping on top of these things regularly can help ease stress and stop the spread of any nasty winter flu’s going around.
If you’re doing any of these, let us know!

January can be a particularly challenging time of year for many. If you’re in need of mental health support this winter, Blue Zoo have put together a list of UK mental health help and support in an emergency which you can access here.
