Here at Brighton Zoo, we’re keen to make sure we keep things fun in and outside of the studio. Here’s some of the things we’ve been up to since Brighton Zoo was founded:
Soup/Sandwich Thursdays
Our iconic Soup and Sandwich Thursdays have been in full swing since moving to our new studio and have gone down a treat with the crew. Throughout the summer months, we made pile ‘em high sandwiches with delicious local bread from the Flour Pot bakery. And as the nights drew in, we switched to homemade soup, generously whipped up by our talented team. Soup/Sandwich Thursdays have been a fantastic way to catch up in person around our big dining table, and share new recipes with everyone - special shoutout goes to Rebecca’s hearty Gulyas and James’ vegan Thai Tom Yum. Delicious!
Craft club
Held at the studio every other Tuesday evening, craft club is a fantastic way to unwind after a day of work. Whether it’s making a start on a crochet quilt, experimenting with watercolours or stitching up that old pair of jeans, the crew are welcome to bring any passion project to the club, no matter how big or small!
We’ve also been holding lunchtime crafting sessions for festive occasions. Check out some of our crafting highlights from our autumnal and Christmas sessions:
The Great British Beach Clean Up
At Brighton Zoo we're passionate about finding new ways to reduce waste and be eco-friendly both in and out of the studio - we have 4 separate bins and counting to recycle our studio waste! Back in September, some of the team got involved with the Great British Beach clean on Brighton beach. All litter was carefully separated, recycled and thrown away properly. Afterwards, the team enjoyed some fish and chips - including trying the local vegan fish option from No Catch.
Trip to fringe
Back in May, the Supertato team took a trip to the Brighton Festival Fringe and its iconic, Spiegeltent, following on the tradition established by Plug-in Media. As Brightonites know, there is always a hugely diverse selection of different productions to experience at the fringe, but for a team in the throes of Supertato production, there was really only one choice - Potatohead by Freddie Hayes - a one woman show on the theme of Potatoes! We finished off with a few pints and food from the various street food stalls inside the Spiegeltent area.
Christmas party
We had our very first Brighton Zoo Christmas party back in December. Our Creative Director kicked off the celebrations with a round of Old Fashioneds in the studio and then we all headed to Cote for a fabulous 3 course dinner. The evening ended up at the pub for a few drinks at The Mesmerist.
